After The Fall: Romania 20 Years After Communism

I traveled to Romania for the first time in May 2007 in an attempt to explore the healing process of a country nearly twenty years after the fall of Nicolae Ceausescu and the end of the communist reign over the country.  This body of work was born out of what I saw when I arrived: a people who love their country but battle its ghosts as they try to move past the oppression that riddled them for so long.  New class separations accompany remnants of the divide between country and city living--the remains of the old world, efforts of the middle world, and progression of the new world.  I strive within this project to marry art with documentary, storytelling through images. I work to capture the way a country and people recover and move forward, reclaiming the identity and tradition that was methodically stripped away by the former dictatorship.
